Quick stretched turkey burgers

I needed to make some turkey burgers in a hurry but didn’t  have a lot of turkey mince. The turkey mince had been in the freezer a while. I was worried that it wouldn’t taste great.

I therefore decided to season and stretch it by adding a packet of paxo stuffing that has been sitting in my kitchen cupboard. It was out of date (BBF) but was fine. I am having a use it up month, and trying to spend as little on food as I can whilst maintaining my good  stocks for next month.

Basically I just added some salt to my raw meat. I made up the dried stuffing, and mixed in a handful at a time to the raw meat.  For 5 or 6oz of meat I used half a packet of stuffing. I made stuffing balls with the rest which will go into  another meal tomorrow. It made 6 medium burgers.

I cooked the burgers in the air fryer and tested them with my meat thermometer. It is a cheap gadget that helps me make sure that things are cooked. Often they don’t take as long as appliances recommend. The burgers could also be fried, grilled or put on the BBQ. Mr S, who was sceptic, was suprisingly pleased with the taste.

I am going to try using stuffing again in something like a sausage plait. I got 3 packets for 15p each last January. Some times we put stuffing balls into toad in the hole with the sausages to stretch it out. How do you use a packet of stuffing mix?

stuffing mix seems to have jumped a LOT in price recently (our favorite is sage and onion) – like to add it to soups / stews in winter

Luckily I got them cheap but yes, everything that used to be frugal seems to be ecpensive now. Never thought of adding it to a stew. Thanks

Stuffing mix, there was a recipe on the packet back in the 60s/70s that our Mum made, cowboy potatoes. Bake jacket potatoes, halve, scoop out flesh, mash up with packet stuffing, put in skin halves, add grated cheese to top and air fry/ grill/ oven until cheese melts. Delicious with sausages and/ or baked beans.

Used to make a zucchini casserole that used grated zucchini, sour cream, grated cheese and the prepared stuffing mix. Then bake..can’t remember how long. I would take to family potlucks and it was well received.
