Mr S loves apple Danish pastries but rarely gets them. They are expensive. Sometimes we find some at the waste food project when we visit during winter. We had friends coming to breakfast and so I thought that I would make him some as a suprise.
It involves buying ready rolled puff pastry which I won’t normally do as it is full of palm oil. M&S sell an all butter one which is only about 20p more and so I bought that. The apples were sweet, eating ones from our own tree.
Ingredients
1 roll of puff pastry
2 largish apples
1 tsp cinnamon
10g of sugar.
Icing sugar to drizzle
Method
1. Wash the apples into grate into a bowl leaving the skin on.
2. In a small separate dish, mix the cinnamon and sugar to gether
3. Tip the cinnamon sugar into the bowl with the grated apple and mix.
4. Unroll the pastry.
5. Spread the apple mixture over the whole top of the pastry. I left a tiny gap on all 4 sides.
6. Roll up the pastry up quite tightly using the longest edge. A bit of juice came out of mine at this point but I just mopped it up.
7. Slice the rolled up pastry into segments. Mine were about an inch long.
8. Place on to a lined baking tray. I use a silicone mat.
9. We brushed them with milk but you could leave them or use an egg wash.
10. Place in the oven at 180β°C (fan)
12. Ours took about 20 minutes. They want to be golden brown.
13. Remove from the oven and place onto a cooling rack.
14. Make a small amount of icing to dribble over them. I just used a heaped tablespoon of icing sugar and added a few drops of water at a time until it was the correct consistency.
15. Either pipe, or dribble the icing over with a spoon.
16. Store in an airtight container and eat within 3 days.
Not all of ours reached the tin. π These were so easy to make and were a lot cheaper than buying them. Some were frozen to eat later in the month. We would have scoffed them all, otherwise. π
These look lovely and Iβm sure they taste better than shop bought, Iβm going to try making these at the weekend
