My daughter came round to lunch unexpectedly with my grandson and so I had to stretch the meat that I had. I had meant to make steaklets for the two us, but instead made the mixture into burgers to feed 4.
I had about 7oz of minced pork. These work well with minced chicken or turkey as well. Beef is so expensive now but Mr S loves his burgers. I find this recipe is a tasty alternative. The ingredients and spices are flexible and you can use what you like or have in. The recipe is what I used from what I had in the fridge. I don’t like to put specific amounts as you can use what you have. I have used grated carrot, chopped frozen peas and sweet corn, bits of mushroom, chilli etc, before.
Ingredients.
6oz minced chicken or pork, or more.
1 grated small onion
2 cloves of garlic
1/4 finely chopped red pepper
1/4 finely chopped green pepper
A handful of finely chopped parsley.
1 tsp each of garlic powder and smoked paprika.
1/2 tsp of cayene pepper
A good pinch of salt.
Method
1. Mix all of the ingredients into a bowl.
2. Spread the mixture out into a square or rectangle. I do this on a silicone mat. If I am making steaklets to serve as a meal I make it double thickness. This was for burgers.
3. Divide into servings. I use the bottom of my grater to make them equal.
4. I airfried mine for about 15 minutes and checked them with a meat thermometer. They can be fried or grilled.
I had some mixture left over and so I made meat balls with the mixture and cooked and froze them to make a frugal meal another day. I also froze 2 burgers as I had made 6. It is amazing how far you can stretch food if you need or want to.

I can tell by the ingredients that the taste will be lovely…BUT!!! The idea of using the base of the grater !!! Absolutely brilliant! I’m actually clapping 😁 I know we all have knives…but this is better. 👏 Will definitely be doing this with our little legs at teatime. 😁
My cutting and proportioning skills are rubbish 😁. I used to use cream cheese containers. Yes it was really tasty. Thanks
great idea …. on my list of things to try … thank you for sharing!
Brilliant.
Great idea Toni and the base of the grater is genious!
It just helps to make them more uniform as my cutting skills aren’t great 🙃
Another great recipe i make a mixture of beef and pork, I’ll try pork and chicken mince together next time, or turkey and pork. I love lamb but rarely have it, I still dont understand how expensive it us so many sheep up here in the Scottish borders! X
I agree. There are loads here too.
My mouth was wattering looking at the recipe. The grater tip pure genius!!!
They are lovely. Yes the grater cut just looks a bit more professional somehow.
