I try to give my grandson as little ultra processed food as possible. He loves chocolate cereal, though. I therefore decided to make some of my own UPF free chocolate cereal. Making my own also helps me avoid the supermarket.
Ingredients
1 cup of oat flour. (I made my own by blending some porridge oats).
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup cocoa powder
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 175⁰C and line a baking sheet with parchment or a silicone mat.
2. Mix all the ingredients together to form a thick dough. I often pinch a bit of peanut oil from my peanut butter to put in a stir fry. Mine was therefore a bit dry and so I added a couple of tsp hot water to my mixture to bind it together. Add a bit more oat flour if it too wet.
3. Form into small balls and put on to the lined tray. It is a labour of love and takes a while.

I got bored and so half way through I pressed some dough on to a separate tray and cut it into squares.

4.Bake for 12 to 15 minutes depending on the size of your balls.
5. The balls will still be a bit soft in the middle but will crisp up as they cool.
6. When totally cold they can be stored in an airtight container. It makes 3 or 4 servings and gets the thumbs up from my grandson.
Apologies for the poor photos but it was dark outside as we made them at 5.30am.
Wow, they look amazing! Perfect for little ones, because given the ingredients of supermarket cereals, they are barely recognisable as food.
Yes. They make a nice treat breakfast. I still try to give him something savoury, or homemade yoghurt and fruit when I can
This is brilliant and I def want to try it out 😀
Thanks
