21 Cheap Sandwich fillings

I am always looking for cheap sandwich fillings and something different. I am putting this post on to remind myself of things we have had in the past so that I put some more variety into our lunches. Sometimes we will have a bit of chicken or ham left, and that fish pate I made a few weeks ago was nice, but I do struggle sometimes to find something I fancy (I would have a cheese toastie every day if cheese wasn’t so expensive 😊). I can remember having grated carrot and raisins sandwiches as a child, but I am not sure if I would fancy that now. I guess you will eat most things when you are hungry, though. Here are some frugal sandwich fillers that I am going to try to incorporate more into my meal planning. I do try to use wraps or pitta bread for variety as we only bake one loaf of bread a week for the two of us.

Sandwich fillings

1. Grated apple and beetroot.
2. Cream cheese and wild garlic pesto.
3. Humous with homegrown spinach.
4. Grated cheese mixed with coleslaw.
5. Egg mayo
6. Carrot, humous and homegrown rocket
7. Cheese savoury (grated cheese, finely chopped onion and mayonnaise)
8. Egg and homegrown salad
9. Coronation chicken (mayonnaise, curry powder, sultanas and pulled chicken)
10. Egg and cress ( I grow it even in winter as it is so easy)
11. Cream cheese and marmite
12. Cream cheese and cucumber
13. Cream cheese and tomato.
14. Pizza cream cheese (mix cream cheese with tomato puree and herbs)
15. Banana and chocolate spread.
16. Peanut butter
17. Grated cheese with home made tomato chutney
(or BBQ sauce)
18. Ham salad
19. Chicken with home made sweet chilli and salad
20. Tuna mayonnaise with added sweetcorn.
21.  Cheese and tomato and salad

Carrot and raisin sandwiches are delicious, especially if you can spare a little Mayo for them! I also have hummus and grated carrot sandwiches. My guilty indulgence filling is peanut butter and banana – it gives a real energy boost. Frugal Jo mentioned your channel on YouTube and that’s what brought me here.
