Pumpkin shaped bread for Halloween

My philosophy is that you do not need to spend a lot of money to make an occasion special.  It just takes effort and creativity.  We are holding a Halloween dinner for family at the end of the month and so I thought that I would practice making bread shaped like a pumpkin yesterday when I made my bread for the week.

I used cotton string wrapped around the bread before it was proved to make the shape.  The recipe that I make for bread does not need a second prove and is quick to make.  This is the link to my cheap, easy bread.  The loaf that has the deeper colour was washed with warm milk with some turmeric in.  I washed it before proving, and again before it went in the oven.  The turmeric did not leave a taste.

I really liked how the sections of the bread separated and it is almost like a tear and share loaf.  It would be good to share with soup, as a centre piece on a table, or to take on a picnic.  It gives that Halloween, festive feeling without costing more than I would usually spend.  I might put a cinnamon stick in the centre of a loaf to make it look like a stalk, or make a stalk from the bread to stick in next time.  A small bowl of hummus or dip could also be placed in the centre of the bread.

I am really pleased with the result and it was so easy to do.  What do you make at Halloween?  I am going to make some pumpkin shaped pizza dough balls next time.

No worries. I must admit I had fun making it and last time used a cinnamon stick as a stalk
