I bought one half price pork joint yesterday from Sainsburys. It was just over £6.
Today I cut it into 6 big boneless chops or steaks, and 14.7 oz of pork chunks. I froze the chops in twos, and divided the chunks in half and froze.
That is at least 5 generous meals for us, and probably more when I make stews from the chunks. I wasn’t that impressed when I saw the size of the joints, but actually they are really lean and a nice quality.
I will buy more joints whilst they are on offer and make sausages and mince from them. The pork is 50% more in price for weight than last year but still makes reasonably priced meals. The pork steaks weighed around 6oz each. Are you making use of this bargain meat? They are on offer nearly a month earlier than usual this year, which has nearly caught me out with freezer space, but we are eating out of the freezer this week and I took food out for our break away last week. The joints have a 6 day expiry date on them and so hopefully I should be ok.

These half price joints are so useful if you know what you are doing with them. So many people don’t understand how to portion out food into different meals. Thankfully it’s a skill I learned a long time ago.
I have bought one of the lamb joints as a treat. It has gone into the freezer and will be my standby joint in case of any issues at Christmas. I always like to buy something that I can have available if needed since the year my turkey crown had turned well before the date and left me with a Christmas dinner of sides (which was still very tasty, but not what I’d expected).
I will hopefully be buying the pork today as I needed to create some space. Some will be frozen as a small roasting joint, the rest will be portioned up. Another will be made into sausages.
Sounds good. Great idea about having something just in case.
We always split the pork joint Billy have never sectioned it into different meals . We usually buy lion but will look for legs & give it a go . Thank you x
