I don’t shop at Morrisons much as I do not have one near me. However, my favourite reduction is the whole half priced salmon which they do at Christmas and Easter each year. It is £6.99 kg this year which is an increase of £1 a kg from last year but it is still good value. We buy them every year as they mean that I can afford to eat fish at a cheaper price. I also love the fact that it isn’t going out of date, like yellow stickers, and so this gives me more flexibility when I take it out of the freezer. Some years I have got these reduced on yellow sticker and reduced even further.
The whole salmon are part filleted, but you have to still pull out some bones. I used to use a pair of eyebrow tweezers but have the proper ones now. Sixteen fillets were cut from the fish, and enough salmon for 2 fish pies. This cost under £16 last year. There is also the head and the fatty side bits of salmon that I am sure that, if I was more creative, I could make things with it like salmon spread. It might be good for feeding a cat, too, if I hadbone.. I didn’t fancy stinking my kitchen out last year but I got 2 whole salmon today and might try making a pate or something .
My freezer is full and I will have to take some baking out of the freezer to fit all the salmon in. I am going to have to have a lot of will power this week to stop me trying the Christmas goodies.

The Christmas food budget is being used to buy these as I already have all the meals covered for over the festive period. I can not afford to buy salmon at full price, or even reduced now. This is a way of making sure that I can still eat my favourite food, whilst sticking to a frugal budget.
