I always make sure that I have some tins of tuna in my pantry. Once upon a time I only used it in a sandwich, or on the side with a salad, which I still do love today. However, I now make many different meals from a tin of tuna. A tin can be really economical (I even saw them for 39p recently), and it is a versatile ingredient.
Here are some ideas of things I do.
Tuna Melt.
Mix tuna, mayo, chopped red onion, and spread on bread. (I some times put it in those part baked rolls.) Top with cheddar cheese and grill or bake.
Easy fishcakes.
Mix left over mash, a tin of tuna, and chopped parsley. Form into small cakes and fry. If you want, you can dip them in to flour, dip them into egg, and then dip them into breadcrumbs to make them more substantial. I sometimes add finely chopped spring onions to them as well.
Tuna pasta bake.
Stir sweetcorn (or peas), tuna, and cooked pasta into a white, cheese, or tomato sauce. Place in a dish and sprinkle with cheese. Grill or bake.
Tuna Arrabiatta
Flake tuna into a spicy tomato sauce with garlic and chilli. Toss with spaghetti.
Jacket potato topping.
Mix tuna with mayo, sweetcorn, and black pepper and serve in a baked potato. If I can’t be bothered. I just like to put the tuna as it is in a baked potato and sprinkle grated cheese on top.
Tuna salad boats
Combine tuna with diced cucumber and celery, and then scoop into lettuce leaves.
Tuna Rice salad
Toss cold cooked rice with tuna, peas, diced peppers, olive oil and lemon juice.
Lemon, garlic and tuna pasta
Mix tuna, minced garlic, a splash of olive oil, and a splash of lemon juice and stir into some hot pasta.
Tuna crispy bake
Put tuna into the bottom of a dish. Whisk 3 eggs with a bit of milk and add some defrosted frozen peas. Pour over the top of the tuna. Sprinkle cheese on top and some crushed plain crisp. Bake until egg is set.

What do you like to do with a tin of tuna?
I like tunamainly in sandwiches or in a salad but is a dish we used to make when my mum was alive and it’s one she saw on This Morning. Richard Madely did it which was tuna, peas a tin of chicken soup and crisps crumpled up and put over the top. I used to eat that with her. We occasionally put tuna in a dish, add a tin of chicken soup and either add peas or sweetcorn and sometimes cooked mushrooms, sometimes put sliced cooked potatoes over the top or have it with pasta or rice, both of which need cooking first and then just heat it up when needed.
Thanks for the ideas I always keep some tuna in the pantry. My favourite quick lunch is sweet potato with a tuna filling, five minutes in the microwave for a large sweet potato, add butter and tuna. Tuna and tomato are great with pasta, and I often make a pasta bake with the addition of a topping of grated cheese.
A cheap go to dinner for us us tuna macaroni. Chop and fry an onion, add a tin of chopped anchovies, a tbsp of capers, 2 tins of tuna and mix into a packet of cooked macaroni. Add a tbsp of chopped dill and a dash if Worcestershire sauce and ground pepper.
Yummy
